- Recently I experienced a major problem in that any attempt to print from
- Pagestream2 would result in a total crash of the system - in fact even
- attempting to do an "about" would crash the system. Otherwise the program
- behaved normally allowing loading, input and saving etc.
-
- Printing from my word processor "Protext" was not affected neither doing
- an "about" from it and other programs.
-
- Believing that it was a system problem I replaced files and in general
- changed parts of my system in an endeavour to correct it.
-
- Nothing seemed to work and I feared for the worst until I noticed that my
- CD Rom Drive LED did not flicker on boot-up - I thought surely this could
- not have anything to do with it, but at this stage I was willing to try
- anything, so I prepared for open heart surgery and found the SCSII cable
- was connected OK but that the power plug was at a slight angle. I pushed
- it home and on booting the LED flickered and - my printing problem
- disappeared!!!! I felt this could not be it so I disabled power to CD Rom
- Drive again and the problem re-appeared NO PRINT and NO ABOUT. I
- performed this operation several times to verify it.
-
- I also found by running Snoopdos that when I gave the print command it
- accessed the parallel device and then crashed - but when corrected it
- showed accessing the parallel device and then the FONTS so this was where
- the problem lay. Previously I had reinstalled fonts etc and even
- reinstalled program.
-
- Does anybody have any ideas on what would cause this - could there be a
- problem in the programming of Pagestream2
-
- I have been asked why I checked the CD Rom Drive power and the only
- answer I can give is "providence"
-
